How it works

  1. 01

    Paste a video

Any public video. You do not need to own it, and no account is involved.

  2. 02

    Read the tags

Click any tag to copy it, or copy the whole list at once.

  3. 03

    Note the character count

YouTube caps the field at 500 characters. Seeing how a big channel spends them is more useful than the tags themselves.

What people use it for

Studying a competitor

Whether they tag at all, and how, tells you something about how seriously they take metadata.

Finding alternate phrasings

Tags sometimes surface the misspellings and synonyms a channel found worth covering.

Checking your own videos

Confirming that the tags you meant to save were actually saved takes five seconds here.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see the tags on a YouTube video?+

They are in the page source, in a meta keywords tag — public but not displayed anywhere in the interface. This tool reads that. YouTube’s own API only returns tags to the owner of the video, which is why an API-based tool cannot show you someone else’s.

Why does this video have no tags?+

Because the uploader left the field empty, which is now extremely common. Once YouTube confirmed tags play a minimal role, many large channels stopped filling them. An empty result is a real answer, not a failure.

Is it legal to look at other channels’ tags?+

Yes — they are public metadata served with every video page. What matters is what you do next: tagging your video with a competitor’s brand name to ride their traffic falls under misleading metadata, which is a policy violation.

Will copying a big channel’s tags help me rank?+

No. Their rankings come from their title, thumbnail, audience and watch time — not from the tag field. This is the most common misconception these tools trade on, and it is worth stating plainly.

How many characters can the tag field hold?+

500 in total, including the commas. The counter here shows where a video sits, which tells you more than the tags themselves: a channel using 480 of them treats tags very differently from one using 40.

Do tags work differently on Shorts?+

No differently, and no more usefully. On short-form, the caption, the hashtags and the first seconds do the sorting.
