Competitor analysis
Know which competitor video is working, and why
Following competitors on YouTube shows you what they published. It does not show you what actually worked. The gap between those two is where the useful information sits.

Watching competitors is not the same as measuring them
- Subscribing to a channel puts its uploads in your feed, mixed with everything else and stripped of any sense of scale.
- A competitor’s biggest video is not necessarily their best signal — it might just be their oldest.
- The competitors worth watching are often not in your language. Nobody keeps up with twelve foreign channels by hand.

How competitive tracking works
Follow the channels that matter
Search a topic, pick the channels worth watching, follow them. Any public channel qualifies, in any language.
Each channel gets its own baseline
A competitor is measured against themselves, so a 30K-subscriber rival and a 3M one are directly comparable.
Overperformers surface on their own
Instead of scrolling feeds, you get a ranked list of what beat its baseline, with the multiplier attached.
What you get
One dashboard for every rival
All followed channels in one ranked view instead of twelve browser tabs.
Comparable across sizes
Ratios normalise channel size, so small fast-growing rivals are not buried.
Cross-language coverage
Follow channels in other markets and watch a format before it reaches yours.
Recency filters
Restrict to the last day, week or month to see only what is currently working.
Keep what matters
Bookmark a competitor video into a folder, add a note, export to CSV for a team.
Dismiss the noise
Hide videos you have judged, and restore them later if you change your mind.
Versus following competitors manually
| Subscribing and watching | VideoTrends | |
|---|---|---|
| See what they published | Yes | |
| See what actually overperformed | Guesswork | |
| Compare channels of different sizes | Not comparable | |
| Cover other-language markets | Impractical by hand | |
| Keep a record with notes | A spreadsheet you stop updating |
FAQ
How do I do a YouTube competitor analysis?
Identify the channels serving the audience you want, establish each one’s baseline — the median views of their recent uploads — then look at which of their videos beat that baseline and by how much. Those outliers reveal the formats and angles that worked. Repeating that by hand is the hard part, which is what this tool automates.
How many competitors should I track?
Enough to see a pattern rather than an anecdote — usually ten to twenty channels in a niche, deliberately including several outside your language. A format that breaks out in one market often appears elsewhere weeks later, and those foreign channels are where the early signal lives.
Can competitors see that I am tracking them?
No. Everything is computed from public data, exactly what any visitor to their channel page can see. Nothing is sent to them and no notification is triggered.
Can I track channels in languages I do not speak?
Yes, and it is the most valuable use of the tool. A multiplier is a number — it needs no translation. Once a format is identified you can look at the thumbnail, the structure and the pacing without understanding a word.
Is there a limit on how many channels I can follow?
During early access there is no cap on what you can follow, and no card is required.
